Role Summary

Reporting to the Catering and Convention Manager, the Catering Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all banquet service staff and coordinating all food and beverage services within the food and beverage department. 


Key Accountabilities

  1. Supervises and leads the service of all catering events from start to finish
  2. Coordinates the service of functions by delegating and supervising the work of others 
  3. Conducts pre-function meetings to ensure personal hygiene and appearance standards of all staff are met, and details of the banquet event order are reviewed by the whole banquet team 
  4. Ensures function rooms are set up in accordance with instructions on the detailed  Banquet Event Order, including audio visual equipment
  5. Meets with Chef to confirm quantities of food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen 
  6. Ensures all china, glassware, silverware, and linen items needed for the event are spotlessly clean
  7. Check staffing needs for upcoming events and schedules are confirmed 
  8. Attends weekly BEO meetings with Chef and Catering Manager to review banquet event orders and ensure all information is complete, asks questions to ensure accuracy
  9. Communicates with the meeting planner/event convenor handling the function to ensure all needs have been met and to check for any last minute instructions or changes 
  10. Complete all daily administrative tasks 
  11. Responsible for the proper handling of all equipment, i.e., audio visual, china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props, ensuring proper storage after use 
  12. Recommend proper maintenance and repair to the Maintenance manager and ensure the proper housekeeping of all function space 
  13. Ensure that food is served at the appropriate temperature, and that the entrée is placed properly on table 
  14. For receptions, ensure sufficient food is available and any upsell opportunities are met 

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2 year of previous experience as a Banquet Server, previous supervisory experience in a food and beverage setting preferred
  • Serving It Right and FoodSafe certification is mandatory

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in computer applications such as but not limited to Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, etc.) 
  • Superior communication skills
  • Ability to work with others in a fast paced customer-service oriented environment
  • Must be physically able to perform the duties of the position, including lifting up to 50lbs (need to be able to move chairs and tables)
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Professional appearance and attitude
