Role Summary

The Senior Estimator leads the estimation process for designated projects, ensuring accurate and detailed costing to support bidding, budgeting, and project execution. This role requires expertise in interpreting project plans, evaluating costs, and identifying potential risks or savings. The Senior Estimator must collaborate with internal/external clients, project managers, Consultants, and trades to ensure an accurate estimate.

Key Responsibilities

1. Cost Estimation:

   • Develop comprehensive cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor services.

   • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs and analyze project specifications and drawings. BlueCity’s core projects range from small woodframe projects to large highrise developments.

2. Project Analysis:

   • Review RFPs, contracts, and bid documents for project requirements.

   • Identify risks, opportunities, and constraints affecting project costs.

3. Stakeholder Collaboration:

   • Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to gather input.

   • Ensure alignment on project scope, deliverables, and cost benchmarks.

4. Market Analysis & Benchmarking:

   • Stay updated on market trends, material costs, labor rates, and industry standards.

   • Incorporate historical data and benchmarks into estimates.

5. Proposal Development:

   • Lead the preparation of bid proposals, including value engineering options.

   • Present cost estimates and justifications to management and clients.

6. Leadership & Mentoring:

   • Mentor junior estimators and provide guidance on estimation processes.

   • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, industry regulations, and best practices.

Key Skills and Competencies

• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.

• Proficiency in cost estimation and takeoff software.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex estimation challenges.

• Effective communication skills for presenting estimates to stakeholders.

• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

• Working knowledge of OnScreen Takeoff or similar software.

• Understating of Building Connected.

• Knowledge of G-suite including Google Docs, Sheets, etc.,, and Gmail

• Demonstrated ability to negotiate with trades.

• Goal-oriented with strong organizational and planning skills.

• Knowledge of all types of residential and commercial construction.

• Strong analytical skills.

• Able to be self-sufficient with minimal input from senior manager.

• Assist with mentoring and training.

• Understanding of High-performance buildings from Step Code 3 - Passive House

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.

• 7+ years of experience in estimating, with at least 2 years in a senior role.

• Relevant certifications (e.g., CIQS, Red Seal, RICS.)

• Passive House certification
